In order to transition our town into a standard community, the initial step involves transferring the town’s public services, infrastructure, and property from the mine to the Town Council.
There is a palpable desire among citizens of all ages to establish a sense of belonging. The ownership of private property holds significant importance in fostering this sense of belonging and mitigating the ongoing departure of valuable community members, who are compelled to leave when they resign or retire from the mine.
By providing quality accommodation options for both rent and purchase, along with access to top-notch education and health facilities, a diverse array of leisure activities, and fostering a sociable, supportive, and proud community, we will catalyze residential and business property sales, thereby spurring further development by the private sector.
The unavoidable social and environmental changes resulting from the town’s transformation process evoke a spectrum of emotions among citizens, ranging from concerns about personal and community security to the mourning of the town’s mining identity and a cautious optimism regarding future prospects. The OMD 2030 program is designed to assist and prepare citizens and the community to embrace these changes.
